The Andrew Alberts Report: Six Games In...


Here I'm visiting a friend at Ace's Place. AA
Hey everyone!

Well, as you all know we ended our long trip last Sunday -- landing in Massachusetts after a late night, exciting, 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

It was a great way to cap off a ten-day road trip full of hardnosed West Coast hockey.  Every team we played out west was extremely physical and came at us with a 2-1-2 punishing forecheck.

After the loss in our season opener to Dallas we were able to adjust our game to better counter other teams' attacks. We rebounded with a better game against Phoenix and came out with two points.

We then flew into LA, where we spent seven days.

While staying in Los Angeles, and after practice, we were able to go explore and see sites like Venice Beach and Beverly Hills, which I saw for the first time.

On our off time we also put in a couple of hours by the pool (due to the nice weather) or we just relaxed in the hotel.

At night as you may know the Sox were playing out in Anaheim so we made sure to join in with the Red Sox Nation to cheer them on. Our next game we ended up losing a tough one to the Stanley Cup champions in a hard fought battle.

However, we were able to take four points in the last two games that was a great way to end our long road trip. We came home with a 3-2 record, which we were all very excited about.

We then took the next three days to prepare for a very important home opener. 

As I came out for warm-ups it was great to see all the fans that had already shown up and were filling the Garden. You could feel the electricity in the building and it was really great!

Looch (Lucic) got us going right out of the gate with a great fight against Tarnasky followed up by a good tussle between Thorty (Thornton) and Roy. 

After that we were rolling...getting pucks deep, taking the body, and getting some great scoring chances. 

Fare (Ference) made a great play to get a shot to the net and Schaef (Schaefer) was able to get good deflection to put us up, 1-zip. And just before the end of the period we added another by a great set up by Fare and blast by Sturmie.  It was a great feeling taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission after our first period at home.

In the second we ran into some trouble in our own end. We were unable to get pucks out, thus causing more scoring opportunities for them. Timmy did a great job steering all the shots to the outside and we were able to get out of the period still up one goal.

From the drop of the first puck in the third, we wanted to set the tone in the period.

We got pucks deep early and re-established our forecheck and started causing more opportunities for ourselves.  Half way through the period Stuwie (Stuart) made a great play by jumping into the rush and Savvy (Savard) made a nice pass to him for a nice one-timer goal.

After that goal we kept the pressure on them and chipped in one more goal to seal the victory. 

It was a great feeling to see the building packed and over 16, 000 fans cheering after our victory on opening night.  Thanks to all the fans that were there cheering us on -- It's always great to have a full barn that was LOUD and ROCKIN!
