Bruins Notes: Preparing for a Duck Hunt
Bruins Notes from Monday's Practice

One Last Party
After one of the most brutal practices of the young season, head coach Claude Julien said that no matter who the Ducks might be missing, there is a reason that they were a championship squad last season.

"It doesn't matter," said Julien. "It's a team sport, not an individual sport.

"There's no doubt that they lost some key players and some great hockey players, but it does not make them a bad team.

"They are the Stanley Cup champions and we have to respect them for that," he said.

Julien has obviously cautioned his team from gaining much satisfaction from their win over Phoenix on Saturday.

"I don't think we are in any position to start disrespecting our opponents," said Julien, emphatically. "We have a lot to prove and still have a lot to learn and work on.

"So we'll just keep plugging away and hopefully get some positive results."

The Bruins will get to see the fruits of working hard when they see the Anaheim squad receive their Stanley Cup rings and give The Jug one last look.

"Well (sure) it can stimulate you," said the coach. "But you don't want to get too caught up in it if you want to keep your focus on the game.

"It's going to be a big game for us, and part if it, no doubt, is motivation were you hope that (what the team sees) is something that can be accomplished with your hockey club."

He reiterated his concerns about the ceremony, however.

"You don't want to get too caught up in it," he said.

Savvy's (and Schaefer's) status
It didn't sound as if we will know Marc Savard's availability for the Ducks game before the contest itself. The Bruins are being very cautious with the playmaker's core injury.

"He did it in the second period (against the Coyotes)," explained Julien. "And in game number two of an eighty two game schedule, we'd rather have (his status) at day-to-day rather than press the issue and we lose him for a month.

So when will he return to the ice?

"I don't know," said Julien. "It's not scheduled yet..

"He's day-to-day.

"(Marc) will let us know how it feels and if it feels good enough he will skate and if not we'll just keep waiting."

On the other hand, Schaefer should be at practice on Tuesday.

"Ya he was just not feeling well, and unless something different happens he should be on the ice (Tuesday),"

Metro to the Rescue
Glen Metropolit was a very important part of the Bruins win and thanks to his fine play, the B's hardly missed a beat with Savard out.

"I thought he stepped up and did a really nice job," said Julien. "That's one of the reasons we did sign him when we had the opportunity -- because he is a guy who is capable of doing that kind of job."

Versatility is one of the strong points of the veteran forward's game.

"He can play on the wing. He can play at center and he can play on your top line. He kills penalties and plays power plays and you can't ask for more," said Coach.

Who gets the start in goal on Wednesday? Claude's not telling…
Asked if Tim Thomas earned another start after his fine performance last weekend, Julien cautioned the media members not to be surprised if they never know who is going to start before, at least, the day of the game.

"Guys, you know, you are going to get tired of asking me that," he said. "I will never talk about my goaltenders (this) early."
