Boston Bruins Foundation Golf
John Bishop is the beat writer for BostonBruins.com. He covers the Black & Gold hoping to offer a positive look at the team, not only from the stands and the press box, but also from inside the locker room. A graduate of Boston U. and Northeastern, 'Bish' grew up in Connecticut and moved to the Hub of Hockey in 1993. Since then he has made all four rinks at the Beanpot schools, as well as both Gardens, his icebound homes away from home. Prior to joining the TD Banknorth Garden staff in 2005, Bishop had written for several publications, with his primary focus being college hockey. He coauthored the book Bygone Boston in 2003 and hopes someday to pen a bio of Hobey Baker.
8:03 a.m.
Today is the day of the Boston Bruins Foundation Golf Tournament at Pinehills and the boys hit the ice at 8:00 a.m. at the TD Banknorth Garden.

On the ice:

Red: Hoggan, Nokelainen, Thompson, Reich
Brick: Lucic-Metropolit-Bochenski,
White: Schaefer-Savard-Murray
Gray: Axe-Krejci-Kessel
Gold: Sturm-Bergeron- Kobasew,

Black (defense):
Chara-Wideman

Alberts-Ference
Allen-Stuart
Ward-Hunwick

In goal, Manny Fernandez on the Boardroom Side, Timmy Thomas on the SportsDeck side

Missing: Shawn Thornton and Matt Lashoff.

It was a high paced practice with the boys doing a lot of skating before heading out to golf. After all, there is a game tomorrow night in what is reportedly a sold out Bell Centre.

Center Marc Savaard could be seen having an intense, but not angry, conversation with Coach Julien about a particular play. Coach Julien, gave an animated answer to his questions and comments before Savvy went to the bench with an answer.

Julien got deeper into defensive formations today, with the entire group working on 4-on-4 play and there were a few hits along the boards…

Got to speak with two defensemen, Andrew Alberts and Mark Stuart and asked them about Matt Lashoff being assigned to Providence and the Boston Bruins Foundation Golf Tournament.

11:43 a.m. I've shifted gears and have arrived in Plymouth for the tourney. It’s a who's who of the Bruins universe with everyone from Don Sweeney to Brad Park walking in and out of the clubhouse. All of the Bruins are here, as well, and there are a lot of smiles because of the sunny weather -- and a beautiful Cape Cod breeze.

This is all very good because the version of the Bishmobile that I am driving today is minus AC.

The clubhouse also seems to be a good place to make a termporary BishCave. The Bish does not golf, after all…

I am going to go see what I can see…more in a bit.

12:50 p.m. Looking at the auction table I see a Johnny Bucyk, framed jersey that is pretty cool. If I had the cake I would bid on that one.

I just saw Andrew Alberts drive by -- he was looking a little perturbed. Maybe he just bogied a hole.

1:01 p.m. Hey! I forgot. I have some more podcasts from yesterday.

Glen Metropolit talks about hoping to stick with the B's.

Manny Fernandez talks about adjusting to a new team and a new city.

Manny just drove by in his golf cart!

2:28 p.m. The tireless volunteers from the Bruins front office and the Boston Bruins foundation have really put together a pretty amazing day here. An incredible golf course, nice people, beautiful club house -- if you love golf and love the Bruins you have to be here next year!

Word is that Cam Neely, Ray Bourque, Brad Park, John Bucyk, Derek Sanderson aaaaaand Bobby Orr are all here...

2:40 p.m. Still a couple more hours until the guys get back from the links, but I am hoping to finagle a few podcasts from the above Bruins legends.

Cross your fingers...

4:02 p.m. We have a David Krejci sighting, folks. They will be back soon!

5:41 p.m. Hazel Mae is in the house! And Our Boys are coming off the course...

Manny

Patrice

Timmy

Almost time for dinner!

6:48 p.m. What an amazing day for The Bear Essentials.

Not only did I get to speak to Derek Sanderson, Ken Hodge, Brad Park and Rick Middleton, but I just interviewed Robert Gordon Orr.

Bobby!

Turk & Cam...

Brad Park

Ken Hodge Jr. and Ken Hodge Sr.

10:07 p.m. Home from the tourney and I have to get ready for the big trip to Montreal. Look for some more podcasts and photos in this space very soon.
