Providence Coach Guides B\'s Rookies to Win
Providence Bruins head coach Scott Gordon, who has been in charge of the Bruins rookies over the past week, had a big smile on his face following his B's Rookie Squad's 5-1 victory over an older, more experienced group from New Jersey.

"I thought it was a great effort by out guys," said Gordon after the contest. "We threw a lot at them over the week (including) the details that they needed to apply themselves in order to (compete).

"They did a great job."

Beyond their work ethic, Gordon liked what he saw in terms of intensity, teamwork, and skill.

"I think we saw a lot of our prospects' individual skills and we can certainly see why they were drafted," he said. "There are a lot of good players out there."

Gordon was especially pleased because their opponents wearing the red and black of New Jersey were also a very, very talented squad.

Yah, a lot of those guys are going to, or have played, pro and are going to be playing in Lowell (of the American Hockey League) this year," explained Gordon. "And I think some of those guys have played for the big club.

"We had two or three pros in our lineup, so that was a great job," said the AHL coach. "Even the guys who we thought might have (needed) a bigger adjustment, like Denis Reul, stepped in and really surprised me (with) how he was able to adapt.

"This was his first taste of (professional) North American hockey, so I thought it was great."

The players, to their own credit, gave full tribute to their coach, and believed that his preparation was the key to their victory.

"The whole week we've pretty much been going over systems," said Daryl Boyle, a Training Camp invitee, who scored two goals on Sunday. "I think that really helped out game.

"The forwards were really working hard in the offensive zone and the D zone and the defense was doing the same thing.

"(Coach Gordon) is awesome. During practice he's vocal and let's you know what you are doing wrong and he'll show you what to do…and makes sure you are doing the right thigns," he said.

"I felt pretty confident the whole game," agreed B's starting goalie Tuukka Rask. "The truth is that the guys played really good defense, today.

"I was (surprised, because) I am not (used to) that kind of defense, or that kind of team defense.

"And we've only been together one week, so it was amazing how well we played," he said.

Echoing the statements of Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien, and his intentions for the NHL club, Gordon said that key to the win was his kids' ability to use their individual skills and energy within a cooperative structure.

"I think, the thing that was really pleasing about the game was that everyone didn't play as individuals, they played as a team," said Gordon. "It wasn't about going and showing us what you can do as an individual, it was about going and playing as a team and your talent comes out along the way.

"Our guys did a tremendous job."
