Friday in Wilmington: Marco Sturm Returns
Marco Sturm
It was another fun day at Ristuccia with the players continuing their now familiar routine of working out, off-ice, in sneakers, then donning the blades to skate some drills before a 3-on-3 scrimmage and some sprints.

NHL vets Marc Savard and Zdeno Chara were going at each other, verbally, all morning, and challenged each other's team to out duel the other in the scrimmage.

At one point, Savvy playfully teased the captain, who virtually never comes off during the cardiovascularly taxing contests, that he was a minus-3 after three quick goals in succession by the speedy center's team.

"You've got to play better," said a "stone-faced" and very "serious" Savard, who received a grin and some quiet words in return from the ultra competitive defenseman.

Chara eventually gave it right back to the first line forward by purposefully over-celebrating his team's win over Savard's as if it were a playoff victory.

Savvy, who despite his jocular tendencies hates to lose, was not amused and could be heard "chirping" on the ice and in the locker room.

Hello Sturmie!

The verbal jousting during the 3-on-3 was all in fun, of course, and both Z and Savvy looked to be in high spirits all day.

And why not -- old friend Marco Sturm was in the building today and suited up for the scrimmage and added a spark to the proceedings.

"I came in last night," said Sturm, who signed with the Bruins at the end of last season, and thereby skipped the lucrative free agency period this summer.

Asked about his re-upping, Sturm was unequivocal in his belief that he did the right thing.

"I think it was a good decision to sign early," said Sturm. "I know where I am going (to be) and I'm all ready to go."

Rumor had it that the German forward was impatiently waiting the summer out in Europe and was in a hurry to get back to New England and start the new season. Sturm said that he was, indeed, very excited to return to Boston and had a lot of optimism about the 2007-08 campaign.

"We've got two really good goalies and another good forward with Peter Schaeffer," said Marco on his way to the equipment room. "And although I do not know the new coach, I have heard good things."

Heard in the locker room
"I just became like a rag doll. I just went loose when I knew that I was going to get hit and I was going down hard."
A laughing Tim Thomas explains how he avoided injury when he, and two other Bruins, collided going for a high-flying puck during today's scrimmage.

Oh and by the way...
Congrats to Timmy for being named to the University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame. A well deserved honor for the former Catamount! Click here to read the announcement from UVM.
