Boston Bruins Acquire Manny Fernandez

Boston – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has acquired goaltender Manny Fernandez from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for right wing Petr Kalus and Boston's 4th round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Fernandez, 32, from Montreal, Quebec, played in 44 games with the Wild during the 2006-2007 NHL season, and posted a record of 22-16-1 with a goals-against average of 2.55.

Originally selected by the Quebec Nordiques in the third round (52nd overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, Fernandez has played 10 seasons in the NHL.  The 6'0", 185 pound netminder has played in 293 career NHL games, and has amassed a career record of 125-113-24 and a goals-against average of 2.47.

Kalus, originally selected by the Bruins in the second round (39th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, played nine games for Boston during the 2006-2007 season and tallied four goals and one assist.  While with the Providence Bruins (AHL) in 2006-2007 Kalus played in 43 games and scored 13 goals and 17 assists.
