On Tuesday, May 22nd the Boston Bruins Foundation hosted a fundraiser for the B's Pan-Mass Challenge Bike Team due to compete again in this year's PMC.
The boisterous event, a well-attended margarita tasting, was held at Tavern on the Water in Charlestown. Located near the Navy Yard across the river from the TD Banknorth Garden, the venue boasts a fantastic view of Boston Harbor and the Boston skyline.
Joining the tasty drink taste testers were Bruins alumni Gary Doak, Bob Sweeney, John Buyck, Frank Simonetti, Nevin Markwart, and Terry O'Reilly.
WAAF's street team were also there to hand out t-shirts and hats, while the Jose Cuervo Girls passed out gear and drink samples.
The 100 or so guests enjoyed margaritas, great food donated by Tavern on the Water and some amazing raffle opportunities for items such as two SportsDeck tickets to a 07-08 Bruins game, as well as a Marc Savard signed B's jersey.
The money benefits the Bruins Pan Mass Challenge bike team, which is riding this year in memory of Jeff Hayes, the 2006 "Pedal Partner" of last year's team, who passed away this January after a long battle with cancer.
Susan and John, Jeff's parents, were in attendance and Susan will ride on the team in this year's PMC.
"This is a great event, everybody seems to really be enjoying themselves," said Susan. "The bike team and the rest of the Bruins organization have been so supportive.
"I am happy to be here to help raise money for the Dana-Farber."
Sweeney, the new director of the Boston Bruins Foundation, indicated that the event was a success.
"I would like to thank all the people who made this event possible," said Sweeney. "Jose Cuervo, WAAF, and Tavern on the Water all did a great job.
"The atmosphere here is great to kick off our PMC fund-raising and we all look forward to the other fund-raising events this summer in support of Jeff's memory and the Bruins Bike team."
