The Bruins will be without Andrew Ference for this evening and will be calling up Nate Thompson for their Saturday night tilt with the Ottawa Senators.

So, we will see Nate Thompson make an appearance with the big club. Look for that release later today on the front page.

Despite their being in street clothes, it certainly was nice to see almost everyone in the locker room after the skate, as Chuck Kobasew (post concussion syndrome), Ference (hand), and Glen Murray (groin) and Mark Mowers (shoulder) all made appearances.

Murray even skated with the rest of the club during morning skate, leading to unfounded hopes in the writers who were present as to his status for tonight.

"I’ve been skating for a couple of days," said Murray, further heightening expectations. "I figured, ’You know what, I might as well get out there with the guys and see how it feels.’

"And it feels good.

"But I still need a week of practice…and if we were playing in the playoffs, I would be ready by then," he said.

So no go on Muzz.

The Kids Are Alright
There were tons of kids around the rooms yesterday, and today.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of reacquainting myself with the entire York clan after practice in Ristuccia. Alexandra, Matt and Jack, joined dad Jason on the ice. Laurel York, a very proud Mom helped everyone into and out of their skates and onto the rink.

Afterward, Jack, Matt and I terrorized an almost empty B’s locker room with an impromptu game of hockey tape shinny, with the York boys showing me the ideal techniques for old time hockey.

But it was fun. Thanks for letting me join in, guys!

A young hockey player named Nick Carpaci introduced himself as a future member of the B’s. Nick, his brother Andrew and friend Tim Jenkins were all there in Wilmington enjoying a day off and taking in the Bruins last practice.

Today, Medford Girls Hockey was in the Garden to see practice. TD Banknorth Garden Director of Human Resources, Joe Lawlor, said that the girls, including his daughter Erin (#30, a goalie) were thrilled just to see a practice.

And how!

For every guy who game out of the locker room, there was a major league cheer from the Under-12 and Under-14 squads -- with perhaps the biggest being saved for Assistant Coach Doug Houda’s son Kris, who happens to be in the Medford Girls general age group, and who was practicing on ice before the morning skate.

With true Black & Gold modesty, Kris took the cheers in stride.

Special thanks to Petr Tenkrat -- Although he scared the heck out of me when he came over and said, "I need to talk to you."

I thought I was in trouble.

Instead, he noted, cheerfully and correctly, that I had messed up on the date of the IIHF World Championships -- they are this month, April 27-30, in Moscow, Russia.

I knew that, but apparently my (typing) fingers did not!

Petr should know, he is a member of the Czech team and will be a participant. He reports that twin daughters Denisa and Nikola are both excited to get home to the Czech Republic to see family, especially their grandmother!

Tenkrat relished his opportunity with the Bruins and also looks forward to representing his country.

"Of course I am disappointed that we did not make the playoffs," he said. "But the World Championships are going to be like another season for me and I hope that the Czech (Republic will come) together to make a pretty good team.

"(If so) we have a good chance to win the World’s.

"It is going to be a lot of fun," he said.

Petr said he has appreciated his time with Boston.

"I really started to enjoy the team," said Tenkrat, who will be a free agent. "With the Bruins I started to feel comfortable and, of course, I would like to return."
