Hello Hannu
A light afternoon blog -- just like you, I am waiting for word on details of the change in coaching over in New Jersey. For those of you who have been tinkering with your opening day fantasy baseball lineup, Claude Julien was fired by the Devils today, and Lou Lamoriello will take over behind the bench.

Yes, I am shocked, too!

Mumbles from Montreal
As was reported in various news sources over the last couple of days, Hannu Toivonen will join the team in time to play against the Canadiens.

Word from Montreal is that after today’s practice, Bruins head coach Dave Lewis told the media that the plan right now is for the young netminder to play on Tuesday and Thursday, with Tim Thomas closing out the year at home on Saturday.

Coach also said that Andrew Ference would probably miss tomorrow’s game.

The lineup for today’s practice was the same as yesterday.

Statistically speaking
Here are a couple of statistical thingamabobs to pass along, thanks to Bruins numbers/history guru, Heidi Holland:

47 - Petr Kalus - RW
Has scored three goals on three shots in six games since his Mar. 23 recall from Providence/AHL…Scored his first NHL goal/point Mar. 27 in Ottawa and added others Mar. 31 vs. Atlanta and Apr. 1 in New Jersey…He is just the third player in the last 20 years to score on each of his first three NHL shots (Pittsburgh’s Rob Brown in 1987 and San Jose’s Jan Caloun in 1996 – thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau for this stat).

21 - Andrew Ference - D
Missed the Apr. 1 game in New Jersey with a hand injury…That snapped his consecutive games played streak at 160 games and was his first game missed since he did not dress for the final game of the 2004 season (Apr. 4, 2004 at Anaheim) while with Calgary.

More good stuff coming out with the game notes for the Montreal game. Look for those after 5:00 p.m. tonight.

About tomorrow night…
Montrealers are already getting fired up about the match up tomorrow night.

No matter that it is the start of baseball season down here (Go Sox!), all they are talking about north of Burlington is pux, pux, pux.

I listened to old friend P.J. Stock on his Stock Exchange radio show on the Team 990 out of Montreal. He talked about playing for the Bruins Alumni squad that played at the Bell Centre last week and bantered with his co-hosts about the Canadiens chances of making the playoffs. Later in the afternoon, he called in to give his take on the Julien firing.

Sid Banerjee, who contributes to a terrific blog called writes:

The Dec. 23 loss is often referred to as the point in the season that the Habs went into a mid-season funk that knocked them down to the eighth spot in the conference.

Marc Savard, C, 2G, 7A, 9 PTS in seven games.
Patrice Bergeron, C, 0G, 5A (3PPA), 5 PTS in seven games.

Marco Strum, LW, 3G, 1A, 4 PTS in six games
Phil Kessel, C, 2G, 4A, 6 PTS in five games.
Tim Thomas, G, 3-3, 3.01 GAA, .903 SV PCT. in six starts.

Alex Kovalev, RW, 0G, 2A, 2 PTS in seven games, minus -8 and 32 PIM.
Andrei Markov, 3G, 1A, 4 PTS in seven games.

Canadiens are 4-3 against Bruins this year, 2-2 at the TD Banknorth Garden and 2-1 at home against the Bruins at the Bell Centre. The Habs have won the last two times out against Boston. The Bruins are 2-7-1 in their last ten games going into their game Tuesday against the Habs.

I am awaiting any definitive word on possible roster moves that might occur before tomorrow’s game, so keep it here for the latest!
