Accentuate the Positive
There is no doubt that March was a difficult month for the Bruins and yesterday’s game was a microcosm of the way the month, as a whole, went for the club.

And, quite frankly, everyone knows the outcome of yesterday’s game and I have no intention of belaboring the point in this space today. As the great pontificator of the B’s locker room, Marc Savard, said after the game, "That’s heartbreaking for the guys. We put a good effort into it…(and) I feel bad for everybody."

So do I.

Instead, ’True Believers,’ today we start looking toward the future for Our Boys.

Petr was great…
A glimpse of things-to-come occurred when Petr Kalus collected a puck and tied the game late in the third period. For his part, after the game Kalus was trying to focus on sticking with the Bruins and continuing to be a bright light in a foggy stretch for Boston.

To wit, he has scored on his first two shots with the Black & Gold.

"Still, we will see what happens," said Petr. "(But) I feel so much more comfortable.

"I am just working for my ice time, here.

"I will (continue) to work hard and we’ll see," said the forward.

His coach, Dave Lewis, said that Kalus has been impressive.

"I’ve enjoyed watching him," said Lewis. "He’s full of energy and (is) chasing the puck.

"The two goals he’s gotten have (shown) a lot of skill. The first goal, he lifted the puck over the goalies’ stick and into the five-hole. The second goal was a really nice goal -- top shelf.

"He’s made the best of his ’little’ chance and opportunity and it’s nice to see a young player like that," said Lewis.

As far as any advice he had for Kalus, it sounded remarkably similar to the words he might speak to his entire club. Lewis explained that a consistent approach was the most important thing.

"Young players, when they start, they bring a lot of excitement," he said. "They have to learn how to play in the NHL and that’s probably the next step.

"Right now he’s playing with emotion, just excitement.

"The teams that we are playing (to finish the season) are top teams and are fighting for something, whether it is first place in the league, or trying to get into a playoff spot for the conference. So, it will be a good evaluation," explained Lewis.

MacDonald, 179 Saved
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Joey MacDonald (an unrestricted free agent), but no matter what the coming months might entail for the very likeable backstop, ’Joey Mac’ has done himself proud in his time with the Bruins.

In seven games he is 2-2-1 with a 2.68 goals against average, and a .918 save percentage.

"I felt really good," said Joey. "I tried (even harder) to make the saves when we got down, 2-0. You can’t afford to let that third goal in .

"That kind of takes the energy out of the guys.

"So I just tried to battle and not let that one in," said MacDonald.

He was very successful in that sense, for most of the game, as he made 37 saves against Atlanta.

"His save percentage is really good (and) his goals-against is really good," said Lewis. "He’s given us a chance in every game he’s played in, basically.

"And that was the sort of feedback I got from people (who saw him play) in Detroit."

Sturm talks solidarity
Marco Sturm, who will be a big part of the B’s future going forward, said that the Black & Gold has to focus on playing for the pride of the Spoked-B.

"We are representatives of the Bruins," said a down, but resolute, Sturm when asked about the next week of games going into the off season. "We don’t want to just let (the season) go.

"We want to win some games.

"It was a tough one tonight, but we have four left," said Sturm.

Furthermore, Sturm said he believes that the Bruins have the makings of a playoff caliber group.

"We have to make some (little) changes. But there are a lot of guys here with long contracts, so we have the basic group -- I think -- here. And we just have to (make some adjustments) and hopefully we make the playoffs next year," he said.
Just over an hour to the first of those four, so keep it here!
