Boston Bruins
Thrashers score first:
Ilya Kovalchuk scored the first goal of the game at :24 in the first. Assisted by Garnet Exelby (7) and Melrose, Massachusetts native Keith Tkachuk (28). Kovalchuk has 39 goals on the season.

deVries puts Thrashers up by two:
Greg deVries (3), who has now played in 160 consecutive games (a Thrashers record), scored his third goal of the season on an assist from Pascal Dupuis (5) at 9:08 in the second period.

Sturm earns 26th:
With 90 seconds left in the second period, Marco Sturm (26) scored a power play goal on an assist from Patrice Bergeron (46) and Zdeno Chara (31)

Called up Kalus scores his second:
19-year-old Petr Kalus (2) scored his second NHL goal, on an assist from Marc Savard (71), to tie the game at 15:03 in the third period. Kalus was called up one week ago on March 24th, 2007 and has scored on each of the two shots he has taken in the NHL.

Tkachuk ends it for the B’s:
Keith Tkachuk (28) scored the game-winning goal at 19:41in third, assisted by Marian Hose (55) and Alexia Ziti (31).

Five for fighting:
Atlanta’s Eric Bolton and Jim Slater and Boston’s Jeremy Reich and Jeff Hogan each received five-minute major penalties for fighting. Reich and Bolton squared off exactly one minute into the second, while Hogan took on Slater at 9:29 in the second.

Kessel nominated for Masterson Trophy:
Boston Bruins rookie Phil Kessel has been nominated by the Boston chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association for the Bill Masterson Memorial Trophy. The award recognizes the NHL player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication. The National Chapter of the PHWA will select a national winner out of 30 nominees in June.

Foundation makes donation to Boston students:
The Boston Bruins Foundation presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to the Boston Collegiate Charter School to support a school trip for 33 students to Olympic National Park on April 13th. Presenting the check on behalf of the Boston Bruins Foundation was Bruins Chief Legal Office and Foundation Board member, Michael Wall. Accepting on behalf of the school was Director of Technology and Operations, Michael Lynch, along with 6th grade students J.J. Barrett and Ashley Diaz.

Time and TV change:
Sunday’s Bruins game against the New Jersey Devils will now take place at 3:30 pm ET and be televised on NESN.

Goaltender, Joey MacDonald:
On his play in tonight’s game:
I felt really good. I tried to make the save when we got down two-nothing. You can’t afford to let that third goal or that kind of takes the energy out of the guys. So I just tried to battle and not let that in, and we ended up rebounding back and getting one at the end of the second period.
I thought about halfway through the second period we started putting some pressure on them, getting some pucks to the net, and forcing their goalie to make a few tougher saves that he didn’t see. We continued that into the third and we ended up tying it up. But unfortunately there was a bad break there in the last 20 seconds of the game.

On his recent play in Boston:
Every game I get a little more confident. The more you play the better you feel.

On the past few games:
I thought the last few games we played pretty well. We don’t have a whole lot to fight for, but we have a lot of respect in this room. We’ve got to be proud of the team we are playing for and the Bruins organization..

Forward, Shean Donovan:
On watching, rather than participating, in the playoffs:
It’s brutal. We have four games to focus on and try to make it into our own little playoffs. After that it’s no fun watching. The whole thing is you spend the whole season just trying to get in there and it’s no fun watching.
