Thomas vs. the Pens

Chuck Kobasew is out with post concussion syndrome.

"He didn’t feel great today (and) his symptoms were about the same, so he’s not available," said B’s head coach Dave Lewis. "We’ll see how he feels tomorrow."

"It’s one of those things that we really have to watch closely."

And Tim Thomas will be in.

"I want to give Timmy a chance to play this team," said Lewis. "(And get) a little revenge, I guess.

"So we’ll see how that works."

Lewis acknowledged that Joey MacDonald had an excellent game against Ottawa.

"Joey played a heck of a game in Ottawa," said Lewis, whose tone admitted that it was a tough decision for the coach.

When asked about Pittsburgh, Lewis was complimentary of this evening’s opponents.

"The one thing they have humming right now is their power play," said Coach. "You just can’t take penalties against that team.

"They love having the puck and they like making plays. And they are exciting to watch when they have the puck.

"For us, we have to stay out of the box and (keep control of) the puck," he said.

There are intangibles at work, as well.

"You have to keep it away from their top guys," he continued, "They play the game with speed and with energy and with passion. And (they have) creativity -- you saw it in the game the other day."

And the inevitable question about Sidney Crosby was posed.

"I’m hoping he forgot his sticks this trip," said Lewis, chuckling.

"Everybody has talked about him. And the amazing thing is his age. You tend to forget that he is 19 years old and that he’s (just) coming into the league and he is leading the league (in points). I remember playing in Los Angeles with Marcel Dionne, when there was somebody else who came into the league -- that would be Wayne Gretzky," he said.

"They tied for the scoring championship and Marcel, I think, was 31 or 32. He has nothing but a bright future ahead of him and he is going to be a great ambassador for the game."

Another young star, Phil Kessel, won the praises of his captain today. Asked if Phil has the star potential to burn as brightly as Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal, Chara answered in the positive.

"Obviously he has the potential," said an animated Bruins Captain. "He’s shown it.

"He’s got skill, he can skate, and he just has to pick his spots.

"The more games he plays, and as he gets more experience, he’s going to learn," said the Captain.

And there are clear changes in Phil’s game, already.

"Don’t forget, it’s been a tough year for him," said Chara. "He came in as a number one pick…and then he was battling his personal thing. And he came back (after) fighting that.

"It wasn’t an easy year for him.

"But he handled it really well for his age and (I give) a lot of credit to him."

As do we all.
