Joey Mac to face the music...

Yesterday, Bruins head coach Dave Lewis surprised the writers surrounding him after practice by naming Bruins backup netminder Joey MacDonald as the starter against the New York Rangers.

"He’s another goalie and he can play," explained Lewis of the decision, succinctly. "He’s on the team."

Asked if that decision was assigning some blame for the Bruins breakdown against Montreal, Lewis shook his head and made an emphatic denial.

"I didn’t (assign blame) to Tim," said Lewis. "You can’t just blame one person."

Looking a little closer, the real answer may lie in the fact that the Tank has not had the easiest time against the Boys from Broadway.

Against New York, Tim is 0-4-2 (the 2 being overtime losses) and has a 3.81 GAA and .878 SV%.

Lastly, Thomas is seventh in the league in games played with 62, with names like Brodeur, Luongo and Kiprusoff ahead of him.

In short, maybe Tim deserves a break.

So, the relative new kid, Joey Mac (right), will get his first career start against Jaromir Jagr and his teammates.

And as far as the other lineup possibilities for today, no news until warm ups.

But don’t be shocked if some familiar faces are sitting -- either because of the flu going around the team, or for ’other’ reasons.

Asked if the call-ups were, in fact, a ’wake-up’ call, Coach answered in the positive.

"Exactly," he said, explaining that the new faces in the room should be a sign to the Bruins players to "pay attention (because) there are other players in the organization that want to take your job."

Should make for some interesting viewing this afternoon.
