Morning Musings on Motown...
There is no question that the Bruins are in desperate straits as they wake up in Detroit this morning.

Now six points out of eighth and in 13th place in the Eastern Conference, the Bruins must begin to groove in Motown, on this Sunday afternoon, if they wish to make the playoffs.

But Boston needs goals, any type of goals, lots of them -- like right now.

Unfortunately, the Red Wings are vying for the top spot in the league, and home ice throughout the playoffs, so today’s game is just as important to Detroit.

And by the way, the Winged Wheels are 7-0-3 in their last ten.

Ooof.

"We had some scoring chances," said Dennis Wideman, the defenseman who earned the Bruins only goal on Saturday. "Once again, we didn’t get a goal when we needed one.

"We can’t be losing those games down the stretch. We need to win."

A couple of defensive issues created scoring chances for Philadelphia, yesterday. But the Bruins problems are probably best found in their 0-for-5 line in the power play column.

"We are fighting for our lives, here," said center Marc Savard to NESN’s Rob Simpson between periods. "We can’t lose anymore.

"(But) we are going to give it all we’ve got."

They’ll have to against the Wings -- they’re pretty good.

But a former member of the Red and White has his own prescription for the remainder of the season.

"We have to bounce back," said veteran forward Mark Mowers. "We can’t throw things away. Things don’t look good, but we have to stay positive and keep going forward.

"It’s almost like we were playing not to lose (on Saturday). We didn’t play to win the game.

"We started out flat again, and we can’t have that mentality no matter whom we’re playing. (The Red Wings) are a good team, but it’s now or never," concluded Mowers.

Well said, Mark.

Go Bruins!

By the way, remember the game is at 12:30 p.m. -- or 11:30 if you haven’t moved your clocks forward -- and the game is on NBC.
