Zdeno Chara: the Big Obstruction?
Bruins head coach Dave Lewis was talking about the power play yesterday. Given Glen Murray’s absence from the lineup, the B’s gave their power play a "little" different look.

"We changed it around a little bit," said Lewis of the B’s power play plans yesterday. "Structurally, not so much. Personnel, yes.

"Mainly because of Muzz (Murray).

"We’ve done a couple of things and…we’ve put big Zdeno Chara in front of the net."

With Big Z’s shot so formidable, why put him in front?

"Lately, I have found that our shots are getting through from the sides or the top, but the goaltender is seeing it," said Lewis.

And talking with B’s goalie Joey MacDonald yesterday, about having Z in front, he just laughed at the reality that he faces now, daily.

Joey’s laugh attests to the practice being sound, but you do lose Z’s 106 mph howitzer from the point in certain situations.

"You have to cause some sort of obstruction," said Coach. "And there is no bigger obstruction…than him."

And just by having the threat of Chara down low, the Bruins have changed the dynamic of their play with the man advantage.

"It puts the onus on the goalie to look around him and it puts the onus on the players with the puck to shoot the puck."

But please guys, just don’t hit the Big Obstruction.
