BOSTON, MA -- Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has claimed goaltender Joey MacDonald off waivers from Detroit. MacDonald who was waived by the Red Wings on Friday, has been recalled by Boston and will join the team on Monday. In addition, Chiarelli also announced today that the Bruins have placed right-winger Glen Murray on injured reserve. MacDonald will take Murray’s spot on the Bruins’ active roster.
MacDonald, 27, from Pictou, NS, made his NHL debut this season on October 19, 2006 and did not figure in the decision after relieving Red Wings netminder Chris Osgood. Since that time, he has amassed a record of 1-5-1 and a goals-against average of 3.46 in NHL action. His last appearance came in a 6-1 loss at Philadelphia on February 12.
The Bruins return to action tonight when they square off with the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Florida at 7:30 p.m. ET in the sixth, and final game of the club’s longest road trip of the season. Boston returns home to the TD Banknorth Garden on Monday, February 26 when the Bruins host the Atlanta Thrashers at 7:00 p.m. ET.
