Back to basics
Yesterday, Coach Lewis explained the "Red Light, Green Light" look of the second half of Sunday’s practice at Ristuccia -- a look that reminded one of elementary school recess, stopping and starting on command, in a school yard game.

"That was (designed) to identify coverage," said Lewis. "Each (stoppage) was a little different in terms of communication.

"(It was designed to show how) to win battles…show (the players) correct coverage and identify who should be low, who should be high (in the zone) and when it’s time to switch. So it was technical things (and was) more of a refresher because we did (those drills) earlier on this season.

"It was just to try and upgrade the intensity level," he said.

Obviously, the "going back to school" symbolism was lost on nobody. And similar to taking infield practice for a Major League Baseball team, this back-to-basics approach was surely meant to light a fire under the squad.

"As a player…you can control your effort, your discipline, your accountability, your preparation, and your focus," said Lewis. "Those are five things right off the top of my head.

"And I want those (things) to be important. Not just for a day, not just for a week, but from here until the very end.

"I want to be a team…that never surrenders, that goes right to the end," he said.

According to the Coach’s words, that intensity has not been apparent.

"We had it for a while, but we’ve lost it," explained Lewis, who said in summation that "you’re either with us or you’re not."

Could be an interesting week, my friends. Keep it here.
