Phil’s Doing the Job
Phil Kessel, despite having the best two games of his NHL career this week, remained humble about his efforts versus Buffalo and Pittsburgh and put his own achievements within the perspective of the team.

"It was exciting," said Phil of his game-winning tally in the shootout, but only in that it gave the team momentum in the standings. "We got the win and we need two points, so that was a good victory for us."

Yes, he was happy and yes, he was proud of the shot.

"But, I just did my job," he said. "You want to win (for the team), and we got the win."

Words aside, this week the young forward seems to have turned a corner and most everyone has noticed -- including the Garden faithful.

"It was good," said Kessel of the crowd’s reaction to the goal. "I thought they were loud (during the game), and it worked out great for us."

Bruins fans aren’t the only ones who have noticed Kessel this season. The NHL named him to the YoungStars game, to be held during the NHL All-Star game festivities, next week.

But beyond that, Bruins head coach Dave Lewis, has also seen marked improvement in Phil’s game.

"I just think (Kessel has been) playing with a little bit more…composure and determination," said Coach after the Pittsburgh win. "He’s been doing the little things that are important, and he was really effective again (versus the Penguins)."

Kessel keeps his recent success in perspective. His attitude about a big game is pretty simple.

"Go out there, work hard again, and (each day) is another day," said the rookie. "That (game) is behind you and you’ve got another game tonight.

"You have to go out there and try to win the game, again."
