MLK Matinee Musings
As upsetting as the Bruins most recent six losses in seven games have been to Boston fans, there are 25, or so, people for whom each loss is tortuous.

But within the Boston locker room, the team is determined to break the cycle of defeat and claw into a playoff berth.

Brad Boyes for one, discounts any notion that this year is beginning to resemble 2005-06.

"We’ve haven’t been playing the way we can, not the way we know how," said Brad Boyes yesterday after practice. "Ya, we’ve slipped here in a couple of games, (but) we still have games in hand.

"If we get back on track and win those, it puts us in a playoff spot.

Last year, that hope really wasn’t there. Whereas here, there is lots of hope, there’s lots of ’bright side.’ We still have half a season (too)," he said.

Boyes intimated that all teams, good and bad, go through tough stretches in the schedule.

"This is our ’down time’ and we’ll get it out of the way and start moving on," said Boyes.

Sunday’s News
  • Tim Thomas will start in net. Thomas played very well on Saturday, especially during the second period, which Lewis called his best period of hockey of the year.

"All you ask from your goaltender is to give you a chance to win…to stay in the game," said the Coach. "And he did that."

Tank has played in 35 games, earning an 18-12-3 and a 3.27 GAA. Tim’s save percentage is a very respectable .901.

  • "(Stan) Chistov has been cleared to play," said Dave Lewis to the media scrum waiting for him in the locker room yesterday afternoon.

  • Changes are coming to the look of the squad on the ice, as soon as Tuesday. Said Coach Lewis: "There’s probably going to be line changes, but I am not going to announce that until (Monday)…not big changes, little subtle changes."

    Trade Winds Blowin?
Coach Lewis was asked if anything was brewing in terms of trades.

"I think Peter (Chiarelli) looks at the situation everyday where he can improve the team," said Lewis. "He has discussions with other general managers and we have discussions about the areas that we would like to improve on -- not on a daily basis, but when a team is going through a period like we are, is change the right thing to do?

"That conversation has (happened), but it’s no different when the club is going good. It’s a constant thing.

"Me personally, I like our team, I just don’t like the way we are playing," said Lewis, adding that in any case, "You just can’t go to K-mart and pick something off the shelf."

There was no morning skate. Look for my updates on the front page and my game story shortly following the tilt with the Sabres.
