Blogging the night away…
false

Before I close up shop for the night, I wanted to mention one more thing.

Prior to the game versus the New York Islanders on Thursday night, there was a short, but very special ceremony to honor Boston Bruins center Marc Savard, and ultimately to benefit the Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation.

As many of you may know, Snyder, an NHL player with the Atlanta Thrashers, was killed in a car crash in 2003.

His parents, Graham & Lu Ann Snyder, accepted a check from Bruins Vice President of Business Operations, Dan Zimmer, on behalf of their son and will put the money toward building an ice rink in his honor.

The Boston Bruins Foundation donated $1000 on behalf of Savard for earning the weekly First Star in the NHL’s ’Three Stars’ for the week ending November 5.

Each Monday, the NHL recognizes three players who delivered the League’s top performances over the preceding week. Savard, who led all NHL scorers with eight points (three goals, five assists) in two games that week, recorded points on 80% of the Bruins’ goals.

He opened that week with one goal and two assists in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres Nov. 2 and matched a career high with five points (two goals, three assists) in a 6-5 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning November 4.

Savard, who signed with Boston as a free agent after recording a career-high 97 points (28 goals, 69 assists) with Atlanta in 2005-06, finishing ninth in League scoring. The 5-10, 195 lb. Ottawa native leads Boston with 55 points entering the Bruins game against New York on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Snyder’s are driving a recreational vehicle across North America, visiting 30 NHL cities during the 2006-07 NHL season.

In each NHL city, the Snyder’s will attend a game, visit with teams and do community minded speaking engagements to raise awareness and funds for the Dan Snyder Memorial Fund.

If you are interested about learning more about the Snyder’s or perhaps donating to their cause, please log on to www.37risingstars.com.
