Paul Bunyan’s Hockey Stick
The Bruins took the ice today in a spirited, dare I say ’happy’, practice following the big win last night against Vancouver.

Everyone skated, including injured forward P.J. Axelsson, who wore a red jersey alongside the regular teal, gold, white, silver and black models.

There was nothing too spectacular drill-wise during the session, as the Bruins did some breakout maneuvers and did some line rushes.

What was spectacular was the attitude around the rink. The guys just looked confident.

Perhaps the most interesting single moment of practice saw Axelsson come onto the ice with a stick that had obviously been cobbled together with two by fours.

It looked like Paul Bunyan’s hockey stick and had the words "Sherwood" and "Stastny" written in black marker on the shaft.

The "Stastny" is, no doubt, a reference to Yan’s equipment, as he is one of the few players left who use wooden sticks.

Axelsson skated around with the stick to give his teammates a look at the two by fours, taped carefully at either end, just like a game stick, and eventually the lumber ended up on the Bruins stick rack in the locker room.

Shean Donovan walked by, stopped in his tracks and said, "Wow, that’s a nice weapon, ain’t it?"

Who made it P.J?

"I don’t know," he said. "We don’t know who made it."

"Nobody knows."

You see, the Bruins had their Secret Santa gift swap today and there was plenty of humiliation to be handed out along with the happiness.

For instance, Tim Thomas, who says he is noted to have a little bit of a short fuse in practice, was given an anger management book.

There were items like that all around the room.

Nobody knows who gave what, but in the end, rumor had it that assistant coach Doug Houda made the giant stick.

Now if we could figure out who got Tim the anger management book?
