Wassup on Wednesday?
The Boston Bruins will not have too much time to dwell on their 4-3 loss to the Canadiens last night, as they will hit the practice ice at noon and will then have a full afternoon.

  • Last week, the Bruins players purchased nearly $20,000 worth of toys, clothing and other necessities during their annual holiday shopping spree and today (December 13th) all players will deliver the goodies to the children at approximately 15 area hospitals and family shelters.

  • Tomorrow (December 14th) the Black & Gold return home to the TD Banknorth Garden where they will host the New Jersey Devils at 7:00 p.m. The first 8,000 fans to enter the Garden that night will receive a complimentary winter hat, courtesy of TD Banknorth.

  • By they way, Thursday evening the Bruins are also hosting Globe Santa -- he will ride the Zamboni and will be collecting donations to purchase gifts for the Globe’s annual of toy drive.

  • And finally, on Saturday, December 16, the Bruins are once again pairing with the Massachusetts Toys for Tots campaign. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the Bruins vs. Florida Panthers game where they will be collected at the turnstiles by local Marines.

    Last night
    Goalie Hannu Toivonen looked pretty good in his first start since November 4th. The Montreal Gazette’s Red Fisher, a more-than-veteran scribe who knows his stuff, wrote, ”Bruins goalie Hannu Toivonen made a barrage of difficult stops among the 40 he faced."

    That’s a nice compliment from a guy who has forgotten more about hockey than most of us will ever actually know.

    Our hometown papers were just as complimentary of the young Finn.

    The Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa agreed, and wrote "Toivonen looked like a big-time puckstopper last night, making head-spinning saves on several of the Montreal Canadiens’ 40 shots."

    The Boston Herald’s Steve Conroy wrote that Toivonen "stopped 36-of-40 shots and, though the B’s did a decent job of eliminating second chances, he had to make a lot of high-quality saves."

    For his part, however, Hannu took the blame again for the loss on his own shoulders -- although clearly he was one of the B’s best last night.

    "It was quite a bit of shots," said Toivonen. "But the guys played pretty good in front of me…I was able to see pretty much all of them.

    "[The last goal] it surprised me. But that’s not an excuse. It’s a goal that should never go in. And that situation -- it’s pretty much the hockey game. And that’s a bad goal to let in," he said.

    It’s good that Toivonen is being a good teammate, and took the blame upon himself for the loss, but there is no way that Toivo lost that game for the B’s.

    No way.
