Morning Musing...
It’s Monday morning and it’s time to start a new week.

But, before we do, let’s revisit some fun moments captured during the past week via podcast in our nearly daily BruinsCast features.

I’ve done a lot of interviews this season, but none have been more rewarding or fun as the talks I’ve had recently with Cam Neely, Troy Brown and Jason Varitek.

Talk about a trio of Boston sports legends. Here are some of the highlights:

Catcher Jason Varitek was asked if he thinks he would have made a good goalie.

"Um no," he said. "I played goal a couple of times and I was terrible.

"I was better out on the ice than I was…in net."

The Boston Red Sox captain explained, that being born in Michigan, he could skate at a very early age.

"I was young," said Varitek. "I played until I was seven years old…I played left wing quite a bit, but kind of moved all around."

A move to Florida turned his sites onto baseball.

New England Patriots receiver Troy Brown said he has always been impressed with the athleticism of hockey players.

"I think it is a great sport," said Troy. "I think it’s a very athletic. You have to be pretty strong in the legs…I don’t know if I could skate around for that long. I’ve tried the sliding board thing and my legs are always burning and swollen and full of blood.

"You’ve got to be quite an athlete," said Brown, speaking of hockey players, and the ability to skate for long stretches of time.

And finally, and most importantly to Bruins fans, Cam Neely checked in to Cam’s Corner following hip replacement surgery -- and he reported on his progress.

"I feel great," he said about the recovery process. "I feel really good. The day-to-day pain is gone and I just have pain from the surgery.

"I’ll take that over the other pain."

Neely was full of praise for the surgical team.

"[The Doctors] at New England Baptist did a fantastic job," he said. "Surgery went really well."

By the way, some of you might have read or heard about the accident involving Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey’s daughter.

For those of you who haven’t: A rogue wave washed Laura Gainey, a volunteer crewmember on a tall ship sailing in the Atlantic, off the deck of the boat and into the ocean.

The incident happened on Friday night and Laura has not been found.

Red Fisher, the legendary reporter for the Montreal Gazette posted a commentary this morning: Only the mothers and fathers among us can even begin to imagine the horror, the torture, the grief that Bob Gainey is going through now. Parents aren’t supposed to lose a child. There is no pain greater than this, and nobody, not Gainey, not anyone, should be confronted with it…I weep for him and his family.

The Boston Bruins family asks you to please keep Mr. Gainey and the Gainey family in your thoughts.
