Boston Bruins Assign Mark Stuart and Hannu Toivonen to Providence Bruins (AHL)

BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Mark Stuart and goaltender Hannu Toivonen to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL). Toivonen will play in Providence's game this afternoon against the Worcester Sharks, and then be recalled to Boston after the game.

Stuart, a second-year player from Rochester, Minnesota and Colorado College, has played seven games for Boston this season, tallying one assist. He spent the beginning of the 2006-07 season rehabbing his knee in Boston with the Bruins training staff before being assigned to Providence on November 7. Stuart has played four games for Providence this season scoring a goal and registering three assists for four points along with a +6 plus/minus rating.

Last season, in 17 games with Boston, Stuart tallied one goal and one assist for two points and finished with a -1 plus/minus rating. In addition to his play with Boston, Stuart saw action in 60 games with Providence last season, recording four goals and three assists for seven points and a +4 plus/minus rating.

Toivonen, in his fourth year with the Bruins organization, has played eight games for Boston this season, posting a record of 2-3-0 and a goals-against average of 4.24.

After starting the season in Boston, Toivonen was sent down to Providence from November 7 - November 26. While in Providence, Toivonen played five games, with a record of 1-4-0 and a goals-against average of 3.33.

In 2005-06, the Hattula, Finland native posted a record of 9-5-4 and a goals-against average of 2.63 in 20 appearances with the Bruins. He missed the final 41 games of the season due to an ankle sprain that he suffered on Janurary 5, 2006 against the Ottawa Senators.

The Bruins are in action next when they travel to the Bell Centre in Montreal to take on the Canadiens at 7:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. The game can be seen live on NESN and heard live on WBZ Radio.

The Black and Gold then return home to the TD Banknorth Garden on Thursday night, when they host the New Jersey Devils at 7:00 p.m. ET. The first 8,000 fans to enter the TD Banknorth Garden on Thursday night will receive a complimentary winter hat, courtesy of TD Banknorth.
