Life above the border is awesome. The team is ready to go and so are the fans.
The place is just hopping.
The only comparison I can make to Bruins vs. Canadiens is Red Sox vs. Yankees.
But there is a mutual admiration here that is not present in the baseball rivalry. These two organizations really respect and admire each other -- until they hit the ice.
Ran into Milt Schmidt on the way back to the hotel. He, Dan Zimmer, Bruins Vice President for Business Operations, and my dad had the pleasure of listening to Milt tell stories for the better part of an hour.
We will make that into a special podcast in the near future.
Speaking to Mr. Schmidt in person was outstanding. It was the biggest honor of my hockey life. Or should I say honour since we are in Canada.
He is truly a special person.
Speaking of special people, Ray Bourque, Johnny Bucyk, Wayne Cashman, Gerry Cheevers, Rick Middleton, and Carol Vadnais will join Schmidt on the Bruins side. Meanwhile, Jean Beliveau, Emile Bouchard, Pierre Bouchard, Elmer Lach, Guy Lafleur, Yvon Lambert and Chris Nilan will be on the Canadiens side.
You could have a pretty good game of shinny with those folks, eh?
FYI: Timmy is in net. Axelsson and Mara are out. Jeff Hoggan is in.
In any case, I am heading over to the Bell Centre again, and will try to blog previous to face off at 7:00!
