Bruins Recall Goaltender Philippe Sauve from Providence (AHL)

BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Philippe Sauve from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Sauve, 26, was acquired by the Bruins from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Tyler Redenbach on November 14, 2006. He was assigned to the Providence Bruins immediately following the trade, and has since appeared in two games for the AHL club, with a record of 1-1-0 and a goals-against average of 3.51.

With the Coyotes' AHL affiliate in San Antonio this season, Sauve had a 4-5-0 record and a 3.80 goals-against average in ten games.

The 6'0", 190 lb. native of Buffalo, New York is in his seventh professional season and Boston is his fourth NHL organization. He was drafted as Colorado's sixth pick, 38th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and played his first four seasons in the Avalanche organization with both Colorado and Hershey (AHL).

After playing the 2004-05 season in Mississippi (ECHL), Sauve played his first full NHL season in 2005-06 with Calgary and Phoenix. During that time he had a 3-7-0 record to go along with a 3.97 goals against average in 13 combined games.

The Bruins are back in action today at the TD Banknorth Garden when they host the defending Stanley Cup Champion, Carolina Hurricanes at Noon. The game can be seen live on NESN and heard live on WBZ Radio.
