Boston Bruins Foundation Hosts Boston Police Athletic League for a Unique Day at the TD Banknorth Garden
Boston, MA – The Boston Bruins Foundation was honored to host the Boston Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) on Tuesday, November 21 for a brunch and a Boston Bruins practice viewing. 75 kids ranging in age from 9-15, and 25 Boston Police Officers spent the day at the Garden, which included a lavish brunch buffet, a speech by former NHL referee Paul Stewart, and the opportunity to watch an entire Bruins practice.

To finish up their visit to the Garden, the kids had the chance to interact with Bruins head coach Dave Lewis. Speaking to the crowd of children from Dorchester, South Boston, and Roslindale, Lewis offered this advice, “Working hard in all aspects of life is key. You have to continually strive to be better in all facets; this applies to both sports and life. If you kids want to make it to this level (pointing to his players on ice), you have to be educated and work hard everyday.”

The Police Athletic League is a strong, local organization with the resources and credibility to bring focus and attention to the youth development field and to connect young people in low-income neighborhoods with responsible adults in school and during their out-of-school time. The overall goal of P.A.L.'s programming is to involve youth in meaningful activities that will counter some of the negative forces in their lives and give them greater opportunities for future success.

P.A.L. works to strengthen the relationship between police officers and youth in the neighborhoods of Boston by providing opportunities for them to participate together in recreational, cultural, social, and educational activities. “These kids are having a blast,” said Officer John Bresnahan of the Boston Police school unit. “This is an experience that these kids will never forget."
