Wine tasting whimsy...
Tuesday morning tidbits
I had a blast last night at the Wine Tasting Event hosted by the Boston Bruins Academy at Ray Bourque’s Tresca Restaurant in Boston’s North End.

In attendance were Boston Bruin forward P.J. Axelsson, his wife Siw, Shean Donovan and his family, including wife Teresa, his mom Gisele and dad Brian, Marco Sturm and North End resident, Head Coach Dave Lewis.

All of the Bruins and their families mingled with 70-pus guests, talked hockey and dealt with my many questions, too.

The wine was amazing, the appetizers were delicious and over $5,000 was raised to benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation -- for those of you who aren’t aware of the Foundation, it is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to assist charitable organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for children in our community.

Many kudos go out to Bruins Director of Community Relations, Kerry Collins, Community Relations Coordinator, Eryn Gallagher, and Paul Stewart from the Bruins Foundation as well as the rest of the Bruins crew for putting together an awesome evening for the fans!

Everyone involved had a wonderful time.

And here is an official Bish’s Blog shout out to the many nice people I met last night, including serious Bruins fans Mark, Marie, Amy and Lara.

And who could forget "She-ra, Princess of Power."

Don’t ask -- it was a wine tasting, after all.

A Bruins Fan from Way Back
Shean Donovan’s dad, Brian, and I had a nice talk.

Mr. Donovan was so excited to be in Boston and be able to enjoy a Bruins event with his son.

"When I was a kid and my dad and I were watching hockey, this was the mid fifties by the way, and we just had [gotten] television -- there was a game on," explained Mr. Donovan. "I took the team opposite the one my dad would have cheered for -- which would have been Montreal or Toronto.

"My team happened to be Boston and I cheered for the Bruins.

And the Black & Gold stuck!

"I cheered for Don McKenney, Vic Stasiuk, Bronco Horvath…and I read about Bobby Orr when he was 13. And with all the talk about Bobby coming to the Bruins, I was the biggest Bobby Orr fan. And I was a Bruin fan up until Shean started playing [for another NHL team].

"Your allegiance is always with your son," explained Brian.

So now Shean’s dad can go back to being a Bruins fan -- although there is also a family connection to the Ottawa Senators, where Shean’s sister Shannon is a coordinator for fan and community relations and is a liaison with the youth hockey community.

"I think Boston is great," said Mr. Donovan. "It’s terrific and the people I’ve met are wonderful. It’s a hockey town, no doubt about that!"

Back to business
All three Bruins forwards knew about the trade for Stanislav Chistov and were excited to see what his impact on the team would be.

There is sure to be more reaction today at Wilmington and I will be sure to post that as soon as I get back from practice.
