The Bruins Turn Out Pockets for WHL Player
By John Bishop, BostonBruins.com

Boston – The Boston Bruins passed the helmet around last week to help a fellow hockey player in need and raised over $5000.

Garrett Robinson, a junior hockey player and member of the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors was driving home from the rink with two teammates when they were involved in a car crash.

The accident, which happened on October 22nd, sent Robinson, an 18-year-old native of Surrey, British Columbia, to Regina's General Hospital with a traumatic brain injury.

Robinson is listed in stable, yet critical condition, while his two teammates were treated and released the same day.

Money is being collected up to help Robinson's family throughout Garrett's recovery and the Bruins were pleased to help.

"I think there is a responsibility for these guys," said Boston Bruins Head Coach Dave Lewis. "They are at the highest level you can be in hockey, and you don't forget where you came from."

"As an NHLer you have responsibility to your teammates, to your fans, to the media, to the ownership and to the management.

"And you have a responsibility across the board to hockey players.

"Saturday Marc Savard gave me a packet of bills that was $5000 plus and then the coaches put some money in, too," said Lewis. "Regardless of results on the ice, there is sometimes a bigger picture in life's scope."

And yesterday some good news was passed on by the WHL and Moose Jaw.

"Garrett is now breathing on his own, has opened his eyes, and is responding to family," Warriors General Manager Chad Lang said in a statement. "We are very pleased to see the improvement in his condition."

The Moose Jaw Warriors had announced last week that a trust fund has been set up for Robinson and his family as he battles to recover from his injuries. The goal of the fund is to financially assist the Robinson Family as they stay by their son's bedside.

"The support shown and the words of hope and prayers for the Garrett and his family have been very comforting," said General Manager Chad Lang, "The Garrett Robinson Recovery Fund will help cover family's expenses during Garrett's recovery."

Those individuals who wish to make a gift can do so through the Garrett Robinson Recovery Fund by mail to either of the two addresses below:
