Say it ain’t so, Sturmie
Just a few hours away...
The Bruins had their pre-game morning skate at 10:30 and Marco Sturm was not among the skating.

Unfortunately, the playmaking German forward is highly doubtful to dress for tonight’s contest thanks to a mishap during a drill in Wilmington on Wednesday.

You see, Sturm is dealing with some swelling in his leg in the spot where he took an errant slapper in practice yesterday and Coach said that "right now he is really questionable."

Utility man extraordinaire and on-ice pugilist, Wade Brookbank, would be his replacement in the lineup and the two lines effected looked like this in the skate, with the other two uneffected:

Hoggan-Primeau-Donnovan
Stastny-Mowers-Brookbank

Yesterday’s lines looked like the below, and if Marco should miraculously recover they should be the same:

Axelsson-Savard-Boyes
Kessel-Bergeron-Murray
Donovan-Primeau-Sturm
Hoggan-Mowers-Stastny

The defensive pairings were quite fluid this morning, and no word as of yet as to who is playing.

Seen and Heard
A collection of notes and quotes from the skate.

  • Darryl Sutter and Peter Chiarelli were seen chatting in the loge.

  • Overheard in the press corps during a discussion about some modern hockey jersey designs (not the Bruins, of course), "There is no accounting for taste -- I mean, some men wear Capri pants."

  • Hannu Toivonen took some shots and could be seen meditating a mid-ice before leaving the rink.

  • Speaking of ice, the Bruins were raving about the sheet after the skate.

  • The Garden facilities people were working very hard to make sure the place was in tip-top condition and could be heard working here and there in the building.

  • The Garden, by the way, looks awesome. The banners are back up, the new seating arrangements look sharp and, even at second glance, the new scoreboard is downright unbelievable.

  • NESN’s Hazel Mae and Rob Simpson were in the house preparing for tonight’s broadcast.

    Heard in The Room
"I just come to compete. To go out there and work hard and try and do whatever it takes to win…as a team, we want to go out there and grab the lead and we just have to make sure that every chance we get to finish a check, make sure we finish."
Forward, Wayne Primeau, on what he expects from himself, and the team, this evening

"I just want to go out and play a good solid game. Play good defensively, and if I get a chance, pitch in offensively…as a team we want to go out there and play with a lot of heart and high intensity."
Defenseman, Jason York, on what he expects from himself, and the team, this evening

"I want to bring some energy tonight and make some plays and hopefully get some goals of it…we need a little support right now [from the fans]. We haven’t played that great yet, but I think we’re on the verge of something good here. Everyone’s been working hard at practice and we’re excited for tonight."
Forward, Marc Savard, on the Bruins home opener

"I expect a lot of energy. Finishing checks again and getting on the same page offensively with my new line. And just contributing to a win. That’s the biggest thing -- coming out here and winning your first game at home."
Forward, Brad Boyes, on what he expects from himself this evening

Keep it here folks, I will update as needed before the game. GO BRUINS!
