Coach Lewis Means Business
One more day of practice
The Home Opener is on Thursday and the Bruins will practice one more time before moving back into their locker room tomorrow morning at the TD Banknorth Garden.

Our Boys will try to get back on the winning track in front of their home fans against the Calgary Flames.

But maybe "try" is the wrong word.

Yesterday, an animated Head Coach Dave Lewis stressed the importance of the B’s upcoming six game homestand and promised that the team realizes what is at stake.

And Coach stated, that one way or another, things would change for the B’s if the losses continue:

"Something has to change. It’s a results oriented business. Just because you like playing with a guy, if you are not successful, that’s not good enough. You have to be successful. You’ve got to have something that you bring to the game…the time is gone. This is a critical six games…you can’t keep playing hockey games and not getting points. Because if you keep doing that you’re going to slide, and that slide could be to deep…so it’s really important. We’ve had enough time now. There could be some harsher decisions made if things don’t go well. And that’s the reality of our business. As much as we’re trying to promote continuity, and be upbeat, be energetic, we’re new, we’re fresh, we got some kids, we got some veterans -- pretty soon were going to have boards up there [on the wall, with standings on them] and you are going to see where we’re standing every day. And we’ve got to start going [points up] that away!"

Fanning the Flames
For their part, the Flames, now 2-3-1, dropped a 5-4 decision to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday at Montreal’s Bell Centre. Calgary’s Chuck Kobasew (ex of Boston College), Matthew Lombardi (2 goals) and Dion Phaneuf scored for the Flames in a losing effort. While Miikka Kiprusoff, whom many deem the best goalie in the NHL, had 36 saves on 41 shots. Calgary, who had been struggling on the power play, notched two against the Habs, who played a very strong offensive game to outlast their Canadian rival in what could best be called a traditional hockey shootout.

Lines, lines, lines
When asked about his line combinations and why the coach had not gone back to the line of Boyes - Bergeron - Sturm, Lewis had this to say:

"I’ve been reluctant to use it because it is a different team. We have different personnel, it’s a different team, and it’s a different year. That’s the biggest reason. I want to establish continuity with everybody -- not just three guys.

When asked if he had been tempted to put the BBS line back together:

"Oh yah."

Coach also indicated that he usually put together the lines and that it is a work in progress.

"There’s a lot of different things that go into making up lines," he said. "Sometimes you pull it out of a hat and you get lucky. Sometimes you have to work at it. Sometimes you have chemistry involved…and right now I think it is a learning process.

"We’ve played five games with the lines pretty much intact, except for the one period in Long Island. And it hasn’t been good enough. It hasn’t been good enough offensively, it hasn’t been good enough defensively."

Ok, got to run to practice. I will post later with any line changes, etc.
