It’s a Beautiful Day...
The B’s are home in the TD Banknorth Garden for the first time/last time this pre-season, the building is brimming with excitement, and NESN and WBZ begin their hockey coverage – it truly is a beautiful day for the Bruins and their fans.

Workers are running around here and there in the Garden, putting the icing on top of the proverbial cake, in order to make the building look its best.

Soon, the Bruins and the Rangers will arrive for their pre-game activities, and very soon, they will drop the puck on the 2006-2007 home schedule.

As your eyes and ears, I feel very lucky to be here on to bring you as much behind the scenes action as possible, so keep it here!

The Bruins took the morning off (no pre-game skate), but have released some notes on the upcoming week’s activities.

We’re on the road, ready to go!
The Bruins close out their pre-season schedule and open their 2006-07 regular season on the road this week.

They will host the New York Rangers in their final pre-season game today, Saturday, September 30 (4:00 p.m.; NESN & WBZ Radio) and will open their regular season with the first game of a five-game road stint on Friday, October 6 at the Florida Panthers (7:30 p.m.; NESN & WBZ Radio).

The Bruins are currently 4-2-0 in their pre-season schedule with wins over Montreal (5-2 Sept. 19 and 3-1 Sept. 20) and NY Islanders (5-1 Sept. 22 and 3-2 Sept. 23) and losses to New Jersey (5-0 Sept. 17) and NY Rangers (1-0 Sept. 27).

The Bruins will open their season on the road for just the third time in the last 31 seasons when they travel to Florida to face the Panthers on Friday. It is the first game of five straight road contests before the Bruins return to TD Banknorth Garden to host the Calgary Flames in their home opener on Thursday, October 19.

The team is rounding into shape.
Boston has 25 players remaining in training camp and the deadline for getting down to the 23-man roster is 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3. For your information: The minimum number of players on a roster is 20 (18 skaters and two goaltenders), while the maximum number of players allowed on a roster is 23 (excluding injured reserve).

Fun stuff…
Today, Saturday, September 30, The Boston Bruins Foundation has a team riding in the Rodman Ride For Kids.

Bruins Executive Vice President Charlie Jacobs and his wife Kim, along with Bruins Director of Player Development Don Sweeney, will lead the BBF team in this ride. The Foundation will donate $10,000 and will ride the 50-mile route throughout Southeastern MA.

The Bruins will also host their annual Season Ticket Holder Barbecue today from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on the parking plaza in front of TD Banknorth Garden. Approximately 2,000 confirmed season ticket holders and Premium Club clients will enjoy traditional BBQ fare of chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and side dishes.

All Bruins players will greet fans at the barbecue prior to entering the building for the 4:00 p.m. game.

Hope you got your season tix!

Don’t miss out!
For those of you who are planning to get tickets for single games in the near future, please keep in mind: Individual game tickets remain on sale for all regular season home games, including the team’s home opener on Thursday, October 19 when they host the Calgary Flames.

Tickets are available online here, by visiting the TD Banknorth Garden Box Office, by phone at 617-624-BEAR and at all Ticketmaster outlets.

Seriously, I know first hand what it is like for someone to show up on game night only to be shut out of tickets because of a sell-out. Get your tickets soon as they are going fast for many of the Bruins best games.

Some more Bear Bytes from practice…
“I am looking forward to the whole experience [on Sat.], you know, coming [to the Garden], meeting here, seeing the guys in the locker room before the game, walking out to the ice, with fans in the building. Watching the puck fall down on the first face off, it is going to be a lot of fun.”
Head Coach, Dave Lewis, on his first game with the Bruins in the TD Banknorth Garden

“[Marc Savard] is the type of player who makes other players better, because of the way he passes the puck. He sees his teammates on the ice very well and I think those kind of players make the other players better. So far I love what I’ve seen from him, he’s a very good player.”
Forward, Patrice Bergeron, on his new teammate Marc Savard

“Its as big as…any other game. I prepare for each and every game and handle it the same way. Doesn’t make that big of a difference [that it is an exhibition], but it is good and exciting to be back home and play in front of our home crowd.”
Goalie, Hannu Toivonen, on coming back to the Garden

“I like to get [the puck] behind the net and use the net a lot…but I don’t mind getting hit on the boards to make some plays. I like to set up…along the wall, get in those spots and look for guys in the middle. Hopefully we get a lot of stuff going and help out the offense.”
Forward, Marc Savard, on generating goals

“It’s absolutely better to have [Shean Donovan on your team]. I played a lot against him in the western conference and he’s not a fun guy to play against. I am just happy to have him on our side this go around…he’s fast, he’s agitating, he’s always around the puck and his presence out there is just tough for the opponent.”
Defenseman, Paul Mara, on new teammate Shean Donovan

Again, I am so psyched to be here and can’t wait for the regular season.
