New York state of mind...
I want to be a part of it…
The Bruins charter out of Massachusetts today at 2 pm en route to the first of two against the New York Rangers.

Tonight’s contest is at Madison Square Garden with a 7 pm faceoff.

I called Radio ESPN 1050 in New York. They are not covering the game (bummer), but those viewers with access to MSG (not me) can watch the game on cable.

All of the Bruins practiced this morning at the Ristuccia Memorial Arena, with the players who are not dressing this evening, (Hoggan, Stastny, Kalus and Dempsey) taking a few extra minutes after the main session.

Tim Thomas will start in goal for Boston and like yesterday seemed in prime form -- making several spine tingling moves to stop shots.

The Bruins will return after the game and practice at Ristuccia at 11:30 am on Thursday.

The rematch is at the TD Banknorth Garden on Saturday, with a 4:00 pm faceoff.

King of the hill, top of the heap…
The intensity seemed to be turned up a notch this morning during the pre-game skate and several of the players seemed to be wearing their game faces early.

Marc Savard was one of the Bruins whose face belied a seriousness that is not usually apparent -- or hasn’t been, thus far, in this year’s Boston Bruins locker room.

"Well, obviously there is a different focus on a game day," said Savard. "You know, you’re a little bit more serious and you know, and with the way we’re playing, you want to keep going right into the regular season."

Those sentiments were echoed throughout the room, especially with the NHL season coming fast.

"[The regular season] is coming closer and closer…You can feel it," said Zdeno Chara as he began preparations to leave for New York. "The practices are intense, there is a good speed and everybody is [moving] at a game type tempo.

"We can not wait to start the season. Everyone is excited," he said.

"It’s always fun to play in Madison Square Garden," said defenseman Andrew Alberts. "The Rangers are a good team and obviously there is a lot of tradition there. It will be exciting to get back on the ice and have another game."

Other voices…
"It’s different on an exhibition game, but you have to get ready for the game, get some rest…but on the plane [to New York] you only have about a half hour to sleep. For the regular season you would try to get an hour, hour and a half. Before the game, go for a walk, get my sticks ready."
Defenseman, Milan Jurcina, on getting ready for the game

"I just try to relax and focus on the game."
Forward, Phil Kessel, on his pre-game routine

"As soon as I get up…I think about the game, right away…I eat a very good breakfast, I go to the rink knowing I have a game tonight, and I try to do all the little things. I tape my sticks right. After the practice I have a good meal and I’ll go back home and have a nap. Think about my game and focus. Then a little snack and then just get ready to go to the game."
Forward, Patrice Bergeron, on getting ready to play

The Chairman of the (Chalk) Board Speaks…
"[There won’t be any more cuts] until after the last exhibition game, next week."
Head Coach, Dave Lewis, on the team’s roster

"Marc Savard has great patience with the puck and he lets plays develop. Glen Murray has the ability, he looks to get open…and Marco Sturm can create separation and speed for the line…he’s hard to contain, he has explosive speed with the puck, but also he creates space for the other two…that’s what I am looking for…and I saw some of that there."
Lewis, on the Sturm, Savard, Murray line

"To me, Axelsson is a very intelligent hockey player. He has great vision, great anticipation positionally…if he is not the best, he is one of the best players that I’ve seen on this team."
Lewis, on P.J. Axelsson
