Bruins win 5-1, Thomas stellar
By John Bishop, BostonBruins.com

Moncton, New Brunswick -- The Boston Bruins upped their preseason record to 3-1 Friday evening as they beat the New York Islanders 5 to 1 in an exhibition game held at the Moncton Coliseum.

Boston, who benefited from the experience of three previous exhibition contests (this was the first for the Islanders), upended New York with strong goaltending from Tim Thomas and goals from five different Bruins skaters.

The first period was penalty marred, and saw six players serve minors, but there was no scoring.

Boston's Nate Thompson opened the scoring at 2:35 of the second stanza, thanks to an assist from Jason York.

Bruin defenseman Brad Stuart put Boston ahead for good, taking a feed from Brad Boyes and Paul Mara, to beat Islanders goaltender Rick Dipietro with former Bruin, Shawn Bates, in the penalty box at 11:45.

The Bruins continued their onslaught at 13:05 as Pascal Pelletier scored his own power play goal (with help from Patrice Bergeron and Yan Stastny).
Bates scored the Islanders lone goal at 16:42, besting Tim Thomas with assists going to Andrew Macdonald and Alexei Zhitnik.

Boston countered once again, as rookie Martins Karsums scored (assist to Savard) at 18:71.

Savard closed out the scoring with his own goal (from Mark Mowers, Stuart) at 17:27 of the third period.

Boston goalie Tim Thomas finished the contest with 30 saves off 31 shots.
Islander goalie Dipietro surrendered three goals on 13 shots before stepping aside for back-up Mike Dunham who let in two goals on twelve shots.

The two teams will meet in Halifax, Nova Scotia, tomorrow evening.
