BOSTON – The second annual Frozen Face-Off was a huge success on Wednesday night. The Boston Bruins Foundation teamed up with Island Oasis and Bacardi to host a frozen cocktail tasting party at the Skyline Bar and Grill located in Quincy’s beautiful Marina Bay.

Net proceeds from the event went to the Boston Bruins Foundation to benefit the Bruins Pan-Mass Challenge Bike Team, who will be riding in the PMC to benefit the Jimmy Fund on August 5.

Bruins alumni Gary Doak, Terry O’Reilly, Bob Sweeney, and Don Sweeney joined the 85 guests at Skyline to converse about the upcoming Bruins season, past seasons, and the PMC, all while enjoying an array of frozen cocktails and appetizers.

Guests also had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items such as autographed jerseys, photos, a chance to sit on the bench during Bruins’ warm-ups, and Zamboni rides.

The Bruins Bike Team will endure the 192-mile trek in honor of 17-year-old Jeff Hayes. Hayes, a standout hockey player at Sandwich High, is fighting Ewing’s Sarcoma. Ewing’s Sarcoma is a malignant (cancerous) bone tumor that affects children.

Hayes continues to fight against this awful illness day in and day out. Something that has not been easy to digest for the high school senior has been time away from his passion – ice hockey.

Hayes’ mother, Susan, was on hand at the event and talked about the motivation the Bruins provide for her son to find the energy and spirit to fight the illness.

“The Bruins riding for Jeff means so much to him and our family,” said Susan Hayes. “Since this whole thing started he hasn’t been able to play hockey and that’s been tough on him. Jeff never complains about anything and he cares more about giving than receiving, but for him to have the Bruins behind him through this fight, provides him with a lot of motivation and hope and we’re thankful for it.”

The Hayes family is not the only ones who are thankful. Former Bruins great and current co-captain of the Bruins PMC team, Terry O’Reilly, is also thankful to be able to help such a fantastic kid and important cause.

“I’ve done this ride three times before and this year will be a big test because I just had two hip replacements, but it’s such a wonderful event,” said O’Reilly. “There are so many doctors and nurses that line the streets cheering you on and saying thank you. It makes you feel good.

“I can’t explain how happy I am to be a part of such a great cause,” added the former right-winger. “ I met Jeff and I can’t imagine how hard it is to have hockey taken away from him at that age because of an illness like that. If this helps him in any way, I’m happy to do it and I’ll do anything it takes to make sure it happens.”

The Boston Bruins Foundation will also be hosting their first annual Skate and Bait Fishing Tournament on Tuesday, August 1 in Gloucester through the Yankee Whale Watching and Deep Sea Fishing Company. The net proceeds will also benefit the PMC team riding to benefit cancer research. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the boat will depart promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Participants can be entered in the fishing tournament as a foursome for $650 or individually for $180 (ages 10 and up). Tickets can be purchased by clicking here or by phone at (617) 624-1923.
