BOSTON - On Tuesday, August 1, the Boston Bruins Foundation will be hosting its first annual Skate and Bait Fishing Tournament. Net proceeds will benefit the Foundation’s Bike team riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge on August 5.
The Boston Bruins Pan-Mass Challenge Team will be riding to raise money to benefit cancer research. The PMC connects each team with a “pedal partner” for the race. The Bruins team will be riding in the 192-mile trek for 17-year-old Sandwich, MA native Jeff Hayes, who has been battling Ewing’s Sarcoma since December 2004. The Bike team is comprised of 18 members with Kim Jacobs, Executive Vice President Charlie Jacobs’ wife, and Bruins great Terry O’Reilly as captains of the team.
In order to help this worthy cause, the Bruins Foundation has also created a Fishing Tournament that will be held in Gloucester through the Yankee Whale Watching and Deep Sea Fishing Company.
Teams will be separated into foursomes and matched with a Bruins player or alumni. Each team will compete in various categories with awards and prizes presented. The tournament will also feature a silent auction and a post-tournament barbeque dinner and awards presentation at Cape Ann’s Marina in Gloucester.
Participants can be entered in the fishing tournament as a foursome for $650 or individually for $180 (ages 10 and up). The price includes breakfast (coffee and bagels), the use of fishing equipment and bait, box lunch, gift item, post barbeque dinner, the chance to fish with some Bruins greats and most importantly, assisting in the fight to cure cancer.
“The Skate and Bait Fishing Tournament is a great way to help raise money for the Pan-Mass Challenge Team and their pedal partner, Jeff Hayes,” said Bruins Community Relations Coordinator Eryn Gallagher. “Between raising funds through the fishing tournament and the Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride, the Bruins Foundation will donate the net proceeds to cancer research in Jeff’s name and we are very excited about that.”
Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the boat will depart promptly at 8:00 a.m.
