The Boston Bruins have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with defenseman Matt Lashoff, it was announced today by Bruins General Manager Mike O'Connell. The contract, terms of which were not released, will commence with the 2006-07 season.
Lashoff, 19, was Boston’s first pick, 22nd overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He has played the last three seasons of junior hockey with Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League with 16 goals and 77 assists for 93 points with 287 penalty minutes in 162 career junior games. He will attend Boston’s training camp in 2006 and will be eligible to play in Providence/AHL or to return to his junior team as a 20-year-old if he does not make the Boston roster.
The 6’2”, 207 lb. native of East Greenbush, New York finished seventh in his team’s scoring race this season with career-high season totals of seven goals and 40 assists for 47 points with 146 penalty minutes in 56 regular season games. His 40 assists ranked him ninth overall among defensemen in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Kitchener Rangers, who finished the regular season second in their division with a 47-19-1-1 record, will open their first round playoff matchup tonight against the Owen Sound Attack.
