Boston Bruins President Harry Sinden will make a $25,000 donation to The Michael Neely Center for Brain Tumor Care and Research, a project of The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, on Wednesday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Boston Institute of Neurosurgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center.
Sinden received the prestigious Chairman’s Award of Excellence at the Delaware North Companies Global Management meeting in January. The Award, bestowed by Delaware North Companies Chairman and Bruins owner Jeremy M. Jacobs, included a $25,000 endowment to be used at the recipient’s discretion in an effort to better their community.
“I am honored to donate this endowment to the Michael Neely Center, as I had the privilege of knowing Mike from when he visited Boston early in Cam’s career,” said Sinden. “The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care is a testament to both Mike and Cam’s mother Marlene as parents that they raised their children to give back to their communities and turn their personal loss into something that has been of benefit to others. I only hope that this donation will encourage others to help the Foundation in their commitment to making the Michael Neely Center for Brain Tumor Care and Research a reality as soon as possible.”
The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care was established in 1995 in memory of Marlene and Michael Neely, who lost their battles with the disease, and has raised over $13 million since its inception. The first initiative of the Foundation was the establishment of the Neely House at Tufts-New England Medical Center, a home away from home created to help pediatric and adult cancer patients and their families while undergoing treatment, which has housed over 3,800 families since it opened in 1997. The Neely Cancer Fund was established in 2000 and supports initiatives that impact cancer directly. The Michael Neely Center for Brain Tumor Care and Research is the fourth such project, following The Neely Center for Clinical Cancer Research, The Neely Cell Therapy and Collection Center and The Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Floating Hospital for Children’s Cancer Center.
