Islanders top Bruins, 3-1
By Jeremy Lemoine

Boston, MA - Trent Hunter had a goal and an assist, including the game-winner, to help the New York Islanders beat the Boston Bruins 3-1 on Saturday night at the TD Banknorth Garden. Brian Leetch scored the lone goal for the Bruins on the power play and Tim Thomas made 43 saves, but it wasn't enough to stop a streaking Islanders team that has won five of their last six games.

"We've got to score goals," said Coach Mike Sullivan, whose team has scored just one goal in their last two games. "It's tough to win games when you only score one goal, and that's been our nemesis for the last handful of games. We need to find a way to score goals."

Leetch scored the only goal, his fifth of the year, on a power play at 13:46 of the second period. Brad Boyes tried to stuff it home from just in front of DiPietro, but the rebound squirted out to Leetch who fired it in for the 1-0 Bruins lead.

Just two minutes later though, the Islanders tied it when Trent Hunter snuck a pass past Thomas and Mike York touched it in for his 12th tally of the season.

With just five minutes left in the third period, Hunter scored the go-ahead goal for the Isles when he redirected a Miroslav Satan shot from the point that went right over Thomas' glove hand.

"I was a little frustrated after that goal went in because I was just fighting so hard to turn it around and get things going," said Thomas who made 19 saves in the first period alone. "It just didn't happen again tonight."

Yashin scored an empty net goal with 23 seconds left on the clock to seal the 3-1 victory.

The Bruins will travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday night.

Notes

Mark Stuart was recalled from Providence and made his NHL debut. Stuart logged 14:08 of ice time and had two blocked shots.

"It was nice because the systems are very similar to Providence up here," he said. "I talked with the coaching staff before the game and they just told me to go out and play my game and enjoy it."
