Bergeron visits French class
By Jeremy Lemoine

Marblehead, MA - Patrice Bergeron visited with French class students at Marblehead Middle School on Tuesday, December 13th. He was instantly greeted upon entering the school, with adoring students welcoming him and seeking autographs. Bergeron sat on the stage in the auditorium and fielded questions in French and then answered the questions in both French and English.

While on stage, Bergeron was asked various questions that ranged from his age to playing hockey for the Bruins, traveling, and teammates. One girl actually asked Patrice if he would marry her. Sorry girls, but Patrice already has a girlfriend.

"It was awesome just being around the kids and having fun," said Bergeron. "They did a great job with the French too, which was pretty impressive. The questions were great, especially if I would marry one of them. I think that one surprised me the most. I didn't know what to say. All in all, I think it's great to learn another language and learn new things, so that's why I came. It was fun."

Ms. Russett, who teaches the French class, was extremely grateful Patrice could take time out of his busy schedule to come by and speak. She was impressed with his English, as Bergeron has only been speaking English since his rookie season in Boston in 2003-2004.

"We were doing an issue for the fun pages for the Boston Globe, and I thought long and hard on who I would get for my interview," said Russett. "Then I realized that I have a lot of students who play hockey, and they have an exchange with a team in Canada, so I thought Patrice Bergeron, who is from Quebec and plays for the Bruins, would be perfect. I was really excited, and the kids couldn't believe he was coming, so it's a wonderful experience for them."

Ryan Dempsey, 13, was happy to see a Bruins player come to his class. Dempsey is a hockey player as well, lacing up the skates in the Marblehead Youth Hockey program.

"It was pretty exciting to find out he was coming," said Dempsey. "I play hockey too, so it's great to see a Bruin come rather than the normal Red Sox player or Patriots player. I'm glad he actually came, and I was able to get his autograph too. He's my favorite player for the Bruins."
