B’s lose to Rangers, 3-2
New York, NY - The Boston Bruins put forth a solid effort on Sunday night, but it wasn't enough to overcome a vastly improved Rangers team at Madison Square Garden. Glen Murray tied the game 38 seconds into the third and Patrice Bergeron's power play score at 9:32 made it 3-2, but the Bruins couldn't get the equalizer and fell to their sixth straight loss.

Despite the loss, Coach Mike Sullivan remained optimistic.

"I thought our team played really hard tonight and we played the way we wanted to play," Sullivan said. "If we have this effort and play with the intelligence we did tonight, we're going to start winning some hockey games. We're obviously in a tough stretch right now, but I think we're working our way out of it. This was, I thought, our best effort in quite sometime, I felt we really did a much better job away from the puck. I thought our guys battled pretty hard and that was a pretty evenly matched hockey game."

The first period featured discipline and solid goaltending for both teams. There were no penalties called on either team. Hannu Toivonen made 13 saves for the Bruins, while Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 13 shots for the Rangers. At the end of one period, the game was knotted at 0-0.

New York took a 1-0 lead just 2:00 into the second on a goal by Petr Prucha. Jaromir Jagr was tied up on the sideboards by two Bruins defensemen, but was able throw the puck to the slot on the tape of an open Prucha. Prucha beat Toivonen for his fifth of the season, and the Rangers skated into the locker room up 1-0 after two periods of play.

The Bruins tied the game just 0:38 seconds into the third period. Brad Isbister stole the puck and found an open Joe Thornton in the corner. Thornton collected the puck and brought it behind the net where he found Glen Murray inside the right circle. Murray one-timed the puck to the far side of the net, beating Lundqvist for his 10th of the season, making it 1-1.

At 6:16, New York took back the lead on a goal by Jaromir Jagr. Jagr faked the initial shot then pulled the trigger to beat Bruins' goalie Hannu Toivonen from the right side of the slot for his 19th of the season. The goal gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

The Rangers added another at 8:42, to make it 3-1 on a goal by Ville Nieminen. Picking up his own rebound, Nieminen backhanded the puck past Toivonen for his fourth of the season.

The Bruins didn't let up, continuing their pressure in the New York zone.

With the Rangers' Michal Rozsival off for an interference penalty, Patrice Bergeron scored at 9:32, a power play goal off a feed from Jiri Slegr. The goal cut the Rangers' lead to one, making it 3-2, but the Bruins couldn't get the equalizer and fell to the Rangers.

Boston next heads out to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night. It will be the fourth meeting between these two teams, with Toronto leading the season series 3-1.
