Boston Bruins General Manager Mike O’Connell announced today that defenseman Brian Leetch suffered a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee in last night’s game at NY Islanders and will be out of the lineup for approximately one month. Leetch was examined today by Dr. Bertram Zarins at Massachusetts General Hospital.
O’Connell also announced that the club has recalled defenseman Milan Jurcina and right wing Eric Nickulas from their American Hockey League affiliate in Providence.
Jurcina, 22, was Boston’s seventh pick (eighth round), 241st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He has played the last two seasons in Providence following a junior career with Halifax of the QMJHL. The 6’4”, 233 lb. native of Slovakia began this season in Boston, playing one of five games before his October 13th assignment to Providence. He had two assists with six penalty minutes in five AHL Bruins games this season.
Nickulas, 30, is in his ninth professional season and signed as a free agent with the Bruins on August 22, 2005 for his second stint with the team. The 5’11”, 200 lb. native of Hyannis, MA is currently second in the Providence scoring race with three goals and four assists for seven points with ten penalty minutes in five AHL Bruins games.
