Boston, Mass. – Training camp rolled into day three at the TD Banknorth Garden, with the second full day of practices and the Team B vs. C scrimmage.
After winning the first scrimmage of training camp yesterday, Team B was back on the ice at 10:00 a.m., facing Team C.
Jason MacDonald started the scoring at 3:50 from a nice Ben Walter feed, putting Team B on the board for the first and last time.
Petr Kalus finished off a Patrice Bergeron pass in front of the net to tie the game at 1 at 7:40 of the period. Tyler Redenbach and Nathan Robinson each added goals to give Team C their first victory of training camp, 3-1.
Walter impresses
Throughout rookie camp and the first two full days of training camp thus far, Ben Walter continues his solid play. During yesterday's scrimmage, Walter notched a goal and returned to the score sheet today with an assist.
"I think he’s been impressive," noted Coach Sullivan. "He’s a smart player and he really sees the ice well. I think he’s really impressed a lot of people."
Team records
Team C is 1-0, Team B is 1-1, and Team A is 0-1.
Samsonov takes to the ice for the first time
Sergei Samsonov, who's been sidelined with a sore back, was a welcome sight for Bruins fans.
“I thought he looked good,” said Sullivan. “I talked to him afterwards and he felt pretty good. He hasn’t skated a lot, so it’s going to be a matter of us working with him to get him into game shape."
Bruins sign Tim Thomas on a one-year deal
The Boston Bruins have agreed to terms with goaltender Tim Thomas on a one-year contract, it was announced today by Bruins General Manager Mike O'Connell. Thomas was an unrestricted free agent and will join the Bruins in training camp on Friday.
After news of the signing, Coach Sullivan spoke after practice.
“Tim has enjoyed a lot of success in Europe,” said Sullivan. “When I had him in Providence, he was a very good goaltender for us. I think he’s capable (of being a number one goaltender in the NHL).”
Hurricane Katrina Relief Benefit
The Boston Bruins and The Greatest Bar have teamed up to host a benefit to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
