Boston, MA -- Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the team has acquired forward Martin St. Pierre from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Pascal Pelletier.

“Martin is a talented offensive player who will provide us depth at the center position,” said Chiarelli.  “We are glad that he will have the opportunity to grow in our system and play with all of the young wingers that we have added to our club.”

The 5-9, 185 pound St. Pierre, signed by Chicago as a free agent on November 3, 2005, spent the majority of the last season with Rockford, Chicago’s American Hockey League affiliate. He posted 21-67-88 totals in 69 games, led the team in scoring.  He also saw action with the Blackhawks in five NHL contests.

Prior to last season, St. Pierre had suited up for Chicago in 16 NHL games from 2005-2007.  In this NHL action he scored one goal and tallied three assists. While in the Blackhawks system, he also played 142 games with Norfolk of the AHL where he recorded 50 goals and 122 assists.

St. Pierre has played a total of 211 regular season AHL games, notching 71 goals and 189 assists.

Pelletier appeared in 206 regular season games for the Providence Bruins in between 2005-2008. Overall, his P-Bruins resume includes point totals of 71-99-170.

Pelletier, who originally signed a pro try-out agreement with Providence on December 16, 2005 and officially signed with Boston on July 28, 2006 as a free agent, saw action in six contests with Boston during the 2007-2008 campaign but did not figure in any scoring.
