Boston @ New York

I just got back from grabbing bagels, coffee and chocolate milk -- the General (my beloved wife, for those of you who are new here) is gallivanting -- and folks, it is COLD!

I wish the best to those of you who will be making the trek to watch the Pats play their playoff game this afternoon, and please, please bundle up. Even without wind, my feet were pretty much frozen by the time I hit the BishMobile's driver's seat.

Back here in the BishCave, I am awaiting word from the New York contingent and I am pretty sure that the Bruins and the Rangers have slept in and will hit the ice for the first time around noon.

Your guess is as good as mine as far as a starter. Timmy had a pretty good game, and an outstanding shootout, but a less than 24-hour turnaround has me thinking that Alex may get the nod.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed the Bruins "Kid Line."

David Krejci, Pascal Pelletier and Vladimir Sobotka are just inches away from having a ton of points and, as one put it yesterday in the post-game presser, they are dominating at times.

Ok, lemmie check my e-mail...

B's winger Glen "Muzz" Murray is skating with assistant coach Doug Houda. That sounds like good news.

As I suspected, no morning skate at all...It's very windy and cold...MSG had the Trinidad/Jones Jr. boxing match last nite so it was a quick changeover from boxing ring to hockey rink...

Humor: Tim Thomas got a lot of questions about Zdeno Chara's slap shot versus Henrik Lundqvist in the game-deciding shootout yesterday afternoon.

Thomas asked himself, "What do I do in practice?" This was after one of the media members questioned Timmy about his technique against Big Z when they practice shootouts. "In practice...I pretty much try to tuck my chin into my neck, turn into a turtle and hope he misses."

"I don't close my eyes and pray (chuckle)."

But Tim let the group in on a secret when he was asked whether he was surprised that Z pulled up and shot instead of skating the biscuit in towards the basket.

"Nah, we talked about it," said Tim. "We talked about it the last two shootouts in a row, because he would have been number four in the last one.

"He didn't shoot it where I told him to shoot it (today), but that's fine by me."

Getting serious, Thomas praised his defensemen, with an emphasis on Big Z, up-and-down on Saturday afternoon.

"This whole year (he's been strong)," said Tim. "With the amount of minutes he's been playing, and to keep up the high level he's been playing, is fantastic.

Tim explained that, thanks to his D, he didn't see very many shots early on in the game.

"The first shot was about eight minutes in or whatever. When Gomez scored, I think that was my first shot of the game. And then I saw a few shots after that (and I was able) to get into the game a little bit.

"We played an excellent game," continued the goalie, expanding his praise to the entire squad. "We're shorthanded here and the kids from Providence that have been called up have been excellent, I think, for two games in a row.

"Their line has been fantastic.

"And the whole team is coming up big...coming up with a huge effort," he said.
