Bruins top Jets in OT on Eriksson's goal

Friday, 09.27.2013 / 1:09 AM

Loui Eriksson looks like he's fitting in just fine with his new team.

Eriksson scored 1:46 into overtime Thursday night to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory against the Winnipeg Jets. The veteran forward, the key piece the Bruins received in the trade that sent Tyler Seguin to the Dallas Stars, lifted a pass by rookie Ryan Spooner on a 2-on-1 break over Ondrej Pavelec for the win.

"It was not necessarily a pretty game on our end as far a full game," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "But we found a way to win, and the guys that needed to produce, produced"

Spooner had tied the game at 6:22 of the third period after Winnipeg had taken a 2-1 lead on a goal by rookie Mark Scheifele at 4:21.

Boston's Patrice Bergeron opened the scoring 3:54 into the game. Devin Setoguchi got the Jets even by beating Niklas Svedberg for a power-play goal at 17:02.

Pavelec finished with 31 saves; Svedberg stopped 26 shots, half of them in a scoreless second period during which the Jets outshot the Bruins 13-3.

"I didn't like the end results. I did like some parts of the game," Jets coach Claude Noel said. "I thought that Pavelec was outstanding. I thought that [rookie defenseman Jacob] Trouba was strong."

The teams play again Friday night in Saskatoon.
