BostonBruins.com - Tuesday night's preseason game in Baltimore resulted in a 3-2 shootout win over the Washington Capitals for the Black & Gold.
In Svedberg's spoked-B debut (no preseason action due to the lockout prior to his first pro season with Providence in 2012-13), albeit in exhibition, he stopped 12 of 13 shots in the second half of regulation and into the five-minute 4-on-4 overtime. He followed that up wit six saves in the shootout, as Carter Camper got the B's the win in the eighth round.
Svedberg stoned Alex Ovechkin in close near the end of overtime, settling down the Caps fans who grew louder as 'Ovi' raced up ice.
Last season's AHL Goalie of the Year looked poised between the pipes, tracking the puck through traffic - like with a left kick save on a power-play drive from Mike Green in the high slot halfway through the third period - and standing tall in the shootout.
He also made a stop on a Nathan Walker penalty shot late in the second, after the Caps forward had been thrown into the back of his net with the puck.
"It was good, he was solid. He made some good saves," said Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien, of the effort.
The lone goal that Svedberg let through came off a laser from Casey Wellman with 1:11 to play in the second. Justin Florek followed it up just 27 seconds later to make it 2-1, before Chris Kelly tied the game, eventually sending in to the shootout.
"I think he got surprised as anyone else on that goal [by Wellman], that guy just turned around and shot it quickly, it was a quick release and I don’t know if he was screened, couldn’t see from the bench but it was a real good shot," added Julien.
"And yet he stood up and shined through the shootout."
"So, he was really good tonight, I liked his outing."
