Boychuk Begins New Journey
WILMINGTON, MA - Johnny Boychuk couldn't keep the smile off his face on Monday morning after practice at Ristuccia Arena.
The defenseman had left the team's California road trip in Los Angeles after the game against the Kings to head home. On Monday, by the time 3:00 a.m. rolled around, Boychuk was a proud father of twin girls.
"They came this morning, at around 2:30 and 3:00 and then I went to sleep for maybe two hours and came to practice," he smiled.
And with a smile on your face?
"Yeah. Of course," he smiled.
With two more important ladies in his life, the first-time father was beaming. He even still had the hospital bracelets on his wrist, heading right from there to practice.
"It was a pretty special morning. Just happy they're here," he smiled.
The Bruins were able grind out a 1-0 shutout win over San Jose on Saturday night, with Boychuk back in Boston.
While the game consumes the Bruins' lives, we've seen time and again with this club that, no matter what, family is at the forefront.
"Well yeah, a lot of guys on our team have a family, coaches have families, and you know, it's important to show that family's always first," said Boychuk.
"It was nice to come back. We thought they might come quick, but they're here and that's all that matters," he smiled.
His teammates, naturally, gave him the spotlight and summoned him to lead the center-ice stretch before practice wrapped up.
He obliged, smiling.
