Johnny Boychuk Doesn\'t Make Trip to Long Island, Still Day-to-Day

UNIONDALE, NY - When the Bruins traveled to Long Island to face off against the New York Islanders on Saturday night, defenseman Johnny Boychuk did not make the trip.

"Last minute decision on him not bringing him. He was better suited to stay back home and get some treatment there," Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien told reporters following the team's pregame skate Saturday morning at the Nassau Coliseum.

The good news is that Boychuk is still "day-to-day."

He was hurt while crashing into the boards early in the second period against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday (October 31). He played only 2:01 in the period, with his last shift ending at just the 5:21 mark. The Bruins played with five defensemen the rest of the game in the eventual 3-2 shootout win.

The tough B's blueliner reported to the team's practice rink at Ristuccia Arena on Friday morning along with the rest of his teammates.

Julien had said Boychuk was "feeling better" after the collision, and originally thought he might make the trip to New York, but it was deemed better for his recovery to hang back in Boston.

"He came in feeling much better but then, after treatment, [the trainers] decided it was better to leave him behind," said Julien.

In his place, defenesman Matt Bartkowski was set to join the Bruins' lineup against the Islanders after sitting out eight games as a healthy scratch.

Though Boychuk did not travel, he is still a possibility to play on Tuesday night at TD Garden, when the Bruins host the Dallas Stars.
