Welcome to Boston, Loui

WILMINGTON, MA - Loui Eriksson has landed in Boston, and was donning the Black & Gold spoked-B during Captain's Practice Monday at Ristuccia Arena, when a group of 14 skaters took the ice before Boston's training camp kicks off next Wednesday, in eight days, on September 11.

We'll likely hear from the new Bruin within the next couple of weeks, on finally being in Boston after a much-anticipated arrival and how he's adjusting to his new team. And no one will be able to deny his excitement for being with the B's.

In July, when the seven-player blockbuster trade between Boston and Dallas took place, the winger waived his no-trade clause to become a Bruin.

"I talked to my family quick and it was kind of an easy decision for me to make that decision to go and play with Boston," Eriksson said back in July via conference call, following the trade.

"When I got the call it was Boston on the line, it was pretty persuasive for me to say yes to that because I know Boston is a good team and it’s a different chapter to go there and try to win games and try to go far in the playoffs and win the whole Cup. I think the match to go and play for Boston is really good - it will be fun."

"I’m real excited and I’m really looking forward to it. It will be awesome to come [to Boston] and play. I'm going to try to give it my best and try to help them win the Cup."

Captain's Practice Observations

In the largest attended Captain's Practice so far this offseason, Eriksson joined fellow new 'B' Jarome Iginla on the ice. Brad Marchand and Carl Soderberg made their first appearances at Ristuccia Arena this offseason. They joined the group of current B's that has been frequenting Wilmington for the past week - Daniel Paille, Shawn Thornton, David Krejci, Dennis Seidenberg and Tuukka Rask.

The group of 14 skaters also featured defensemen David Warsofsky, Zach Trotman and Chris Casto, along with forwards Nick Johnson, Bobby Robins and Justin Florek. Johnson was signed by Boston as a free agent to a one-year, two-way deal on July 5.

Having taken in last week's skates which featured only a handful of B's, this "practice" had a higher intensity to it with the larger group, and it's easily apparent that they're ramping up their skating in preparation for next week's start to camp.

The bulk of the skate featured 3-on-3 drills inside the blueline, which brought out battling along the boards, slick moves in close on Rask (who is wearing his new pads, BTW), and plenty of competitiveness.

Not that I would be surprised at all by the "down to business" attitude during these informal skates, but the joking around was saved for mostly the time in-between drills, though it ended up being a very spirited skate. 'Seides,' as always, couldn't keep a smile from his face, and neither could Iginla (as per usual). There was also no shortage of laughs and interactions between Eriksson, Iginla and their new teammates.

Look for the rest of the B's to start joining the group at the end of this week and early next. In addition to Captain's Practices, the club's Rookie Camp is taking place this week, beginning with an on-ice session open to the public on Wednesday (September 4) at noon at Ristuccia Arena. The full schedule and roster for the camp can be found on
